As we've said elsewhere, there's no such thing as a 'standard' project - if for no other reason than your ideas and requirements are likely to be highly individual.
Nevertheless, there are certain questions which we're asked on a fairly regular basis. If there's a specific question you'd like to ask, please use our enquiry form
What is meant by 'ecological' houses?
Houses constructed with materials from renewable and legal sources which have the minimum possible environmental impact and avoid the use of toxic materials to the maximum practical extent.
What about energy efficiency?
Energy efficiency is achieved through design and selection of materials. Careful detailing achieves a high degree of air-tightness and energy efficiency of the assembled building.
Additionally, we'll include features such as Ground Source Heat pumps and rainwater collection when appropriate and where space permits.
What are the key characteristics that your off-site manufactured buildings have that differ them from similar pre-manufactured developments?
We employ a timber frame post and beam/structural insulated closed panel hybrid system. This of a highly energy-efficient ecological design using breathing wall technology to create a congenial healthy habitat.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this system?
We are genuinely unaware of any disadvantages. The advantages are high energy efficiency buildings, airtight form of construction, greatly reduced impact on site and surrounding environment, early wind and weather tightness due to speed of erection and a greatly reduced construction timescale.
Allied to fabrication processes under strict quality control and third party certification, with over 95% of materials are recyclable, using timber from sustainable & legal sources, materials which are non-toxic to the greatest practical extent.
What service do you provide?
Our turnkey Design & Build service combines the role of the architect, the engineers and the builder. It comprises all the professional services, workmanship and material required for the realisation of a building project from inception to completion.
Can you help us with approaching the council for planning permission? And what about on-site services?
Yes. In general terms. But there may be circumstances where we would have to research local restrictions specific to your plans - if for example your project is in a designated Area of Natural Beauty.
Depending on the extent of the work involved, there may be an additional charge. As ever, talk us through it at the outset of the project.
With regard to the services on site, yes, we'll liaise with the statutory authorities on your behalf.
How much could I expect to save by using a pre-manufactured design versus employing a local architect and creating a bespoke design build?
In reality, on a 'like for like' basis? Virtually nothing. Normal architect design and local builders will normally build to meet the minimum Building Regulation requirements unless you specify otherwise.
Our buildings are designed to meet current German specification and technical performance standards - which substantially exceed current UK Building Regulations.
